This is a not yet completed draft of the Spellweaving magic system for the game Spellwoven. It’s a bit strange, and some people will likely not find it to their taste.
The basic system is that magicians have ‘spell maps’ that they establish through random rolls, and then, when casting a spell, they move around the map triggering effects as they go. There are rules for switching out effects you don’t like, so that–in a way–this isn’t really a purely random system. It’s more like starting off with a random assortment of effects, rather than starting off with very few effects. As you move up ranks in Spellweaving you can ‘craft’ you map and change it to be closer to something you want.
Here’s a link to the PDF. It isn’t complete yet. Shadow, Winter and Death are not finished.
And… here’s a video attempting to explain this (as it seems like this is all a bit confusing in the pdf).
Interesting. I’m not sure how that’ll work but to be honest I’ve loved everything on this site for… longer than it has been this site, actually, so I’m interested to see how it goes.
Yeah… it’s a bit of a weird idea. I’m also unsure how well it will work for other people… I think a major problem with a system like this is that I’m probably running a lot of ‘table rules’ that I’m not even aware of. Most of the feedback I’ve seen has been in the direction of simplifying things, so that’ll be the first thing to do.
